Smoking with the Devil by tschultz — last modified 2006-06-03 12:03 PM
This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: -Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God (I John 3:10a.)
The home mission of Good Shepherd-Indianola, Iowa by rharting — last modified 2006-06-03 12:04 PM
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and thy follow Me. (John 10:27) These words of the Good Shepherd can summarize the reasons for the beginning of the home mission in Indianola, Iowa. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand (John 10:28). Hearing the Word of God in its purity and the gifts of forgiveness of all of our sins and the gift of salvation are what we receive as poor sinners now fully fed and redeemed by Jesus.
The Book of Psalms: The Bible's Hymn-book by rwaters — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
In the movie "Saving Private Ryan" the American army sniper who picked off enemy soldiers at long range recited the Psalms as he drew his target into the cross hairs and pulled the trigger. While this is not exactly what the Psalms were written for, they certainly have been a source of courage and strength in the midst of life's struggles. These struggles are against our greatest enemies-the devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh. While much has been written about the Psalms, there is little disagreement that they provide courage and strength in times of adversity and temptation, and also solid comfort and hope in those times when we "walk through the valley of the shadow of death."
Johann Walter (1496-1570) by Rev. Jerry Gernander — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
The Lutheran church always has been known as "the singing church." If you're a Lutheran, you come from a long tradition of great church music and great hymns. Therefore, one of the most important Lutherans for us to know is Johann Walter.

LARGE CATECHISM #10:
Librarians, too! by Rev. David Russow — last modified 2006-06-03 12:06 PM
In our predominately blonde-haired and blue-eyed congregations, boys with dark-black, curly hair and deep brown eyes and with names like Katama and Nuwile and a last name like Mulbah would stand out. However, by applying on them the water of baptism in the name of the Triune God, they fit in just fine! The Apostle wrote, "There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to one hope when you were called-one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all" (Ephesians 4:4-6).

A new approach to MISSION WORK by wmeier — last modified 2006-06-03 12:08 PM
At the 2003 Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod Convention, delegates voted to make North American outreach the synod's emphasis for the next four years. With the theme "Proclaim Peace through Jesus," members are concentrating on telling neighbors about their Savior. St. Thomas Lutheran Ministries in Phoenix is one example of North American outreach in action.

Rural Mission Outreach by Rev. Ted Gullixson — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
At the June synod convention, the delegates resolved that the synod president use all resources available to deal with the decline of rural congregations. Pres. John Moldstad therefore appointed an ad hoc committee of interested members from Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Hampton, Iowa to implement this resolution.
