Camp Indianhead at Schwan Center

The Minnesota Camp Indianhead met again at the Schwan Center in Trego, Wisconsin July 11-16. Camp Director David Thompson, along with counselors and pastors, conducted the camp at which campers experienced fellowship, delicious food, tons of fun, and not quite enough sleep!

Pastor Thomas Rank provided the study entitled, "Spiritual Discernment: How Do I Know the Difference Between Truth and Error?" Campers spent eight hours studying Scripture under the guidance of a pastor. They were taught how to test popular heresies, covering topics such as the Church Growth Movement, Pelagianism and homosexuality. They received instruction in the Lutheran Christ-centered approach to Scripture in contrast to non-biblical approaches and in the importance of daily meditating on the Word of God. 

Chapel was held each morning. Campfires at night included hymn singing and prayer along with all those fun camp songs. Several pastors attended the nightly devotions in the cabins and enjoyed in-depth discussions with the campers.

Activities included everything from the typical sports, crafts, and nature hikes, to the more adventurous horseback riding, tubing down the Namekagon River, Ultimate Frisbee against the staff, and an all-camp Capture the Flag game. According to one camper, "It was awesome. I can't wait till next year!"

Activities included Bible study, sports, group games, swimming, boating, and more! We ended the week's activities with "Romans and Christians" which allows the youth to convert or convince Romans to believe in Jesus as our Savior.

This year the campers studied "Angels." We studied angels because their untiring work affects our lives from birth to death and beyond. They protect and guard us. They minister to our physical and spiritual needs. They carry our souls into the holy presence of God upon our death. As the writer to the Hebrews tells us, "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" (Hebrews 1:14).We are further studying angels because they played such an important role in the lives of God's people throughout Scripture, as well as ministering to Jesus from the announcement of his birth to his ascension into heaven. The camp theme is based on the Bible passage from Psalm 148:1-2, "Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him from the heights above. Praise Him all His angels, praise Him all His heavenly hosts."
