Librarians, too!

In our predominately blonde-haired and blue-eyed congregations, boys with dark-black, curly hair and deep brown eyes and with names like Katama and Nuwile and a last name like Mulbah would stand out. However, by applying on them the water of baptism in the name of the Triune God, they fit in just fine! The Apostle wrote, "There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to one hope when you were called-one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all" (Ephesians 4:4-6).

The Mulbahs belong to a new and growing population change around King of Grace Lutheran Church, in Golden Valley, Minnesota. They also represent a wonderful opportunity for Gospel outreach to precious souls who come from Liberia. A year ago Verna Wilson and Nina Junius, a mother and daughter from Liberia, were instructed and confirmed. Nina is attending Bethany this Fall. Another lady from Liberia, Viola Herron, came from a WELS congregation. Now Krubo Mulbah, who was baptized and confirmed as a Lutheran in Liberia, is seeing to it that her husband, Jerome and girls Tuniya and Gorma are instructed, receive Baptism, and join as communicant members. Katama and Nuwile are in Sunday School and confirmation instruction.

Many other Liberians live in apartments within blocks of the church. With the Lord's guidance, the King of Grace Board of Evangelism is planning a concerted effort to reach them with the Word. We call it our "Liberian Outreach." The congregation plans on holding Bible studies in the apartment complexes so that our new Liberian friends can invite their neighbors.

While this will be something new for King of Grace, it's not new to Christ's Church. It is making disciples through Word and Sacrament. I instructed the Mulbah boys concerning baptism. Pastor Erwin  Ekhoff performed the rite of Holy Baptism. As with the Mulbahs, the Lord will give the increase as He leads King of Grace Lutheran Church in its Liberian Outreach efforts.

Oh! Recently someone who overhead a conversation about our Liberian Outreach mistakenly thought he heard that we were focusing a new evangelism effort to "librarians." Whether Liberians or librarians; they are precious souls for whom Jesus has lived a holy life, died in punishment for their unholiness, and has risen to remove the claim that sin, death, devil and grave have on them. So we will not rest in reaching out with that Good News, including Liberians to all. Librarians, too!
