A book report on The Doctrine of Infant Baptism for Today - By A. Andrew Das
If you have ever had a discussion with someone about infant Baptism, you would appreciate Das's book. The day after my wedding, when one of my new relatives asked me "When were you saved?" I found the book to be very thorough. Many of the chapters start with discussions that the author has had with people of other denominations. Many of these discussions are not unfamiliar.
Author Das does an interesting and wonderful thing in his book. He starts with everyday conversations that two Christians might be having about infant Baptism, and explains where the misunderstandings lie. Quoting Scriptures, the Confessions, and Church Fathers, he refutes the misunderstandings that many have with Baptism today. He also points to the Old Testament as the foundation of Baptism, going back to proselyte customs and the crossing of the Red Sea. The Lord always included people of all ages in His plan of salvation. Infant Baptism is the Lord's way to share the benefit of Jesus' work of salvation.
This book would be beneficial in several ways. It is a valuable resource on Baptism for any church library. It would also be helpful to the person discussing Baptism or as an answer to the friend with whom one discusses Baptism.
This book would also be a good review of Baptism for any Christian. It covers key teachings of the Christian faith such as faith itself, the means by which that faith is distributed, and the need for such a faith because of original sin.
All in all, this book contains a high number of Scripture quotations, especially many which fortify the fundamental doctrine of the Church, salvation by grace alone in our Lord, Jesus Christ. What more needs to be said?
