Is 'Love One Another' Working? by sbrockdorf — last modified 2005-09-17 07:26 PM
There is a self-help book for marriage that talks about giving in order to get. The idea is to be nice to your spouse so that your spouse will be nice to you. Admittedly there is some practical wisdom in that idea, but it certainly isn't what Jesus meant when He said,
How Do We Give Up Sin For Lent? by Rev. Brad Kerkow — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
How would you like to give up drinking your morning cup of coffee for six weeks? How about giving up red meat for that same amount of time? Many of us have heard about "giving up" something for Lent. But it is a practice which most of us have probably never participated in. Perhaps we associate it with Roman Catholicism.
The Writing of the Augsburg Confession by cferkenstad — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
2005 marks the 475th anniversary of the reading of the Augsburg Confession. Since this is the chief confession of the Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Sentinel presents a series of articles which shows the history of this confession and examines a few of the individual articles. This year, reading the Augsburg Confession would be an especially worthwhile endeavor.
Evangelism Begins at Home by Rev. Matthew Crick — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
Teaching God's Word begins at home. This means that Evangelism (spreading Good News about Jesus) begins at home! The Lord, through Moses, encourages us to teach His truth to our children:"Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up" (Deuteronomy 6:7).
Disaster, Death, And GOD by kheck — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
Instantly a beautiful, sunny day on the ocean coasts of nine nations in the Pacific Rim was darkened by the tsunami generated by the so-called "Christmas Quake" in the bottom of the ocean on December 26, 2004. We are stunned and numbed by the news, the numbers, the images, and the emerging personal stories of disaster, death, and for some, miraculous deliverance.

The Ingredients of a Christian Marriage by twestendorf — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
After nearly thirty years in the public ministry by God's grace - seeing struggling couples trying to keep their marriage together, and after over thirty years in our own marriage, the words of a seminary professor seem to me more and more profound. He illustrated a Christian marriage this way: Regardless of how far apart from each other a couple may feel at a given point in their marriage, if each of them is growing in his/her relationship with the Lord through His Word and the blessing of the Holy Spirit, they can grow only closer to one another. It's like two lines of a triangle. They will always meet at the common point!

Children in Church: Even the Little Ones? Especially the Little Ones!!! by S. Wentzlaff — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
Shhh! Sit down! Shhhhh! Read your books! SHHHHHHHHH! Please, we're in church!
Pastor, I Have a Question by Rev. Paul Zager — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
Question: Sometimes I find myself asking, "Why me?" when something goes wrong in my life. But then I feel guilty for even asking the question. How can I deal with the guilt feelings, and how can I avoid asking the question to begin with?
NEW ELS WEB SITE! by Jesse Jacobsen — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
Much of what you need and want to know about your synod can be found on the above site, which, while still a work in progress, is well worth the visit.
A Confession We Need to Read by Rev. Ted Gullixson — last modified 2005-06-25 09:23 AM
When was the last time you read the Augsburg Confession? This important confession of the Lutheran Church should be in the church library. When was the last time someone took it home and read it? Thankfully, this confession is printed in the Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary. Reading it before the service is a good way to prepare for worshiping God.
