The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God. He procedes from the Father and the Son. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to us. The Holy Spirit makes us holy. How does He do that? He puts us in the holy Christian Church. In this holy Church the Holy Spirit gives us holy things. He washes us in Holy Baptism to make us holy; He makes us holy through the forgiveness of sins in Holy Communion.

To be holy is to be without sin. Sin is thinking, saying, or doing what is wrong. We sin because we are born sinful. We need the Holy Spirit to make us holy. This is why we go to church. When we go to church we meet the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is three persons but only one God. He is the only God. The Father sent the Son to be our Savior. The Son became our Savior when he took away our sins. The Holy Spirit makes us holy by bringing us to our Savior. The Holy Spirit gives us faith in Jesus as our Savior. We believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We know we are God’s children. We know we are going to heaven.

Remember the teaching of the Catechism! The Holy Spirit and the holy Christian Church go together. They cannot be separated. We bring our children to Divine Service every Sunday morning because this is where they will be made holy by the Holy Spirit. The Lord and giver of life gives us holy lives to live through the holy things entrusted to the Holy Christian Church!
