Arizona/California Mission Rally in Arizona

The twenty-fourth annual Arizona/California Mission Rally took place February 10, 2007 at Family of God Lutheran Church in Fort Mohave, Arizona. Fifty-five people attended the rally. Host Pastor Larry Wentzlaff began the day with a devotion based on the theme, "Serving the Lord throughout the Ages." The choir from Family of God sang, "The Lord is My Light and My Salvation."

Sherry Duin, member of Christ Lutheran Church, Port St. Lucie, Florida, delivered the morning presentation entitled, "Being Born A Lutheran Lady...What Does This Mean?" Sherry took the attendees back into the past and described how Lutheran Ladies groups began and operated. Sherry also addressed the future of our ladies groups.

The invitation to the rally read, "A High Tea will be served at lunch. Hats and gloves not required, but encouraged." The Ladies of Family of God wore hats from various time periods and members from the visiting congregations played along wearing hats as well.

The Rev. Timothy Hartwig led the afternoon devotion, "Preparing for Heaven." The Rev. Steve Petersen gave a keynote presentation on the mission work being done in our synod throughout the world.

During the business meeting it was resolved to adopt Cross-stitch as their official recipient with at least 75% of the gifts collected at this and future rallies being given to Cross-stitch. A total of $1043.00 was donated to Cross-stitch that day. Congregations represented were, Family of God, Fort Mohave, AZ, Our Saviour, Lake Havasu City, AZ, Redeemer Lutheran, Scottsdale, AZ, Our Savior, Bishop, CA and Faith Lutheran, Irvine, CA. The next Rally is planned for February, 2008 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Basket Ball Tourney brings second place

Our Saviour Lutheran School in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, recently participated in a grade school basketball tournament at California Lutheran High School (WELS). Led by Coach Scott Hill, the co-ed team of 3-8th graders came away with the consolation championship trophy.

The school is located in Lake Havasu City, AZ.  It was started in the fall of 1994 with classes beginning with teacher Mrs. Barbara Huhnerkoch and nine students in kindergarten. The school currently enrolls 44 students in grades K4 - 8, with additional on-line programs available for high school education. Our newest expansion, a separate school building(see attached photo), was dedicated to the Lord in August of 2003.  We have four teachers on the staff: Miss Sarah Wright (K4 and Kindergarten, a recent 2006 Bethany graduate), Miss Rachel Freer (grades 1-2), Mr. Scott Hill (grades 3-4-5), and Tim Schubkegel (grades 6-7-8, principal).
