+ We Are His Workmanship +
Board For Evangelism Newsletter: March 2009

Sin is like that for us. Parents pass it down to their children (“That which is born of the flesh is flesh,” as Jesus said – John 3:6). No matter how hard people try, they cannot shake the guilt of sin that clings to them. That sin is rebellion that separates people from God and His kingdom.
God having loved us, even though we didn’t deserve it, is called grace. At personal cost to Himself, He arranged to have our sin removed from us. His own Son’s blood was the price. He even arranged for us to have this grace, this gift without being required to do anything to earn it. Our believing it is faith. Faith is our own precious possession, like a key in our pocket that opens God’s kingdom. Even this faith God gives us without our efforts or deserving.
Knowing this, isn’t it the case that we well up with a desire to serve our Lord? Through the declaration of our text, by grace we have been saved through faith, we know ourselves to be truly free of any fear of God’s anger. We are anxious to demonstrate God’s love in Christ to the world.
We are truly His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:8-9
